‘Wounda’ Raises $24,000 at auction

Jane Goodall & Sophie Green with ‘Wounda’

It was such an honour to be asked to paint a portrait of the wonderful ‘Wounda’ for the Jane Goodall Institute UK. You can read all about Wounda’s story here.

‘Wounda’ (meaning ‘close to death’) arrived at the Jane Goodall Institute rehabilitation centre, after being rescued from the illegal pet trade and has since become a well-known symbol of hope for the species.

Wounda’s portrait went up for auction at the Royal Geographical Society in November 2022, where it sold for £19,500 (approx. $24,000), all of which will be going towards helping to rehabilitate chimpanzees and educate and inspire communities.

Shortly after the auction, I was invited to Jane’s house, where she generously signed Wounda (probably increasing the value of the painting tenfold). Wounda is now safely in her new home with her new family and the money raised from the auction will be going towards helping real chimpanzees in the wild.
