Inspired by Rodin’s Le Penseur, Green’s Reflection depicts a chimpanzee, deep in contemplation. So much emotion is conveyed without even seeing the animal’s face.

“This is probably my favourite piece in the entire collection. It was the first piece that I painted - I actually started painting a lion and then painted over it. I’d been thinking about Le Penseur and how groundbreaking it was at the time for an artist to depict man thinking, rather than fighting, hunting of exhibiting strength. Well, I thought it was about time we extended the same level of compassion to animals, as they are also sentient. Animals think, love, grieve and suffer at the hands of humans.” - Sophie Green
