“After painting Stealth, I had the idea of painting a piece with a similar composition but using a tiger as the subject instead of a snow leopard. Snow leopards are typically very elusive, which was represented by the mist. But tiger numbers are also declining and the species is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, so I wanted to give this popular big cat a dedication too. Sadly, it’s taken me far too long to find the time to paint this piece, due to my Commodities collection and then The Natural Order series taking over - 4 years, in fact!” - Sophie Green
Stealth II is a follow-on painting from Green’s popular piece, Stealth. Stealth, which was part of Green’s Impermanence collection and was exhibited in her solo London show in 2022, was painted in aid of snow leopard conservation work, tracking the impact of climate change on India’s snow leopard population. This follow-on piece, depicts a tiger walking out of the darkness.
The piece is painted in Green’s signature realistic style, with its piercing gaze drawing the viewer in immediately and an elusive mist obscuring the tiger’s feet.
